In OCTOBER, 2002, Kellee Jo and I are going to embark on a monumental journey together, and make some memories that few mothers and daughters are able to share, for an incredible cause.
We are going to walk 60 miles in 3 days for the Georgia AVON 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk!!!
We have both committed to raise at least $1,900.00 each...however we would love to be able to surpass that amount!
I am walking IN MEMORY OF my Aunt RUBY NELSON.
I lost a very important influence in my life the day she died.
September of 1998 was a month of great JOY and tremendous PAIN for me! I gave birth to my precious son CAMERON and lost AUNT RUBY.
Just days after Cameron's birth, I was told that Aunt Ruby's cancer had returned, and it did not look good.
While my family was able to travel to Michigan to see her - I was not. Cameron had not been medically cleared yet, he had dangerously high bilyrubin levels and had to have blood drawn almost daily and finally had to be hospitalized and placed in an incubator and put under photo therapy lights. After Cameron was released I was told that Aunt Ruby had died!! I was devestated. I had lost my chance to say good bye to her and let her know how much I loved her and tell her why she had been so important to me. Nor did we get the chance to have her hold my son, so that he too could have felt her love if only for that one moment.
If I can stop ONE person from having a personal story to tell about this hideous disease, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!
So for you Aunt Ruby - I SHALL WALK !! Please continue to watch over Cameron.
The cause is to support research for a cure as well as funding programs for 'underserved' women. 'UNDERSERVED' usually covers the women we all know - the ones who fall through all the program cracks - ie they make too much money to qualify for most programs - however don't make enough money to afford health insurance, so they just go without!!! Please don't think the 'underserved' doesn't affect you! Ask your Best Friend - Mom - Sister - Cousin - Boss - Neighbor... when the last time she had a mammogram was. You may be shocked !!
I know that I was. 'No Insurance' was the reason.

If you would like for me to walk IN MEMORY OF someone or walk SURVIVOR steps for someone please advise their name in my guest book and I will wear a ribbon with their name on it. If it is for a SURVIVOR, I will wear a pink ribbon with their name on it, and if it is IN MEMORY OF someone, I will wear a white ribbon with their name on it. These precious ribbons will be pinned to my shirt and your donation will allow them to be with me every step of the 60 miles. After the walk, I will remove your SURVIVOR or IN MEMORY OF ribbon w/the name written on it - that I wore throughout my 60 miles and send it to you for you to keep.
